Dear Future Students

I hope that when you travel to Chicago in winter, bring lots of warm clothes, It's very cold, Because Chicago is The Windy City. The food is very spicy, I think it's normal to consume spicy food. You should go visit all the museum, I recommend you go to the Museum of Science and Industry, It's a very good place. If you want to shop, downtown is a best place. North Michigan Av. is also a good place to find good deals. If you want to buy souvenirs, in Chinatown there are many cheap products.You must know the entire city, my favorite place is the Downtown. I love to see the buildings and lights. It is a city with lots of culture.

My Visit to John Shedd Aquarium

**SHEDD AQUARIUM**

On Friday (and Saturday), I visited the John Shedd Aquarium. There are very species of fishes. I choose fishs with fluorescent colors. I found 12 fish with this characteristics.

1. Queen Angelfish (In Pritzker Caribbean Reef)

Animal #1 - Common Name: Green Sea Turtle

Where is it from? Caribbean Reef

Habitat, Cage, Aquarium Location: 

Turtle lives in habitat tropical and subtropical coastal around.the world, in warm waters. In Shedd Aquarium live in Pritzker Caribbean Reef.

What factors does your animal need to survive (climate, nutrients, food, etc.)?

The turtles are herbivorous, It feed on sea of grasses, algaes, crabs, jellyfish and sponges.

What physical characteristics help your animal survive?

This Animal is in dangered, Because people their killed for their meat and eggs.

The Green Sea Turtle is a Submissive behavior Animal and interacting with other species.

Animal #2 - Common Name: Shy Hamlet 

Where is it from? This fish is from Atlantic Ocean

Habitat, Cage, Aquarium Location

This fish lives in cold waters, around reef of up to 30 meters deep. In the aquarium is in Island and Lakes.

What factors does your animal need to survive (climate, nutrients, food, etc.)?

Shy Hamlet need cold water (River, lake) and eat plankton.

What physical characteristics help your animal survive?

This fish does not need to be killed, Is in dangered.

Is a submissive behavior fish and interacting with other species.

1. History

Chicago was founded for Potawatomi Indians, They called at first the river "Checaugou", meaning "Wild Onion". In 1673 first appears the name "Chicago" in the maps after the visit of French Missionaries. This city was incorporated in 1837.

Chicago is the third city most populous, after New York and Los Angeles. Is famous for its shows and the popular artist born here.

2. Where's Chicago

Chicago is next to Lake Michigan, in the north west of USA, Chicago called the city of wind, because is very freeze.

3. Chicago's Famous Places

a. Sears Tower, "Willis Tower": A building with 103 floors, Is famous, because in his 103 floor have a dome of glass, where you can see the city.

b. Navy Pier: A Boat Harbour with some attractions (Ferres Wheel,Light Tower Ride, Wave Swinger, Crystal Garden and some stores of souvenirs). In summer is a fun watering place.

c. Millenium Park: A park with free cultural exhibitions,the tourists are amazed with what is presented here.

i. Cloud Gate: Created by Anish Kapoor, He was inspired in liquid mercury.Chicago's People called this sculpture "The Bean".

ii. Crown Mountain: In a interactive work inspired in the Crown Family, It was show Chicago's People. In summer this image squirts water.

iii. Jay Pritzker Pavilion: The Centerpiece, It was designed by Frank Gehry. This Centerpiexe is the home of Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and The Grant Park Music Festival.

Hello Friends! 

This time I will talk about food in chicago. It is full of fast food, "Mc Donald` s "," Subway "," Dunkin Donuts "and" Starbucks ". Healthy eating in this city is very expensive, I miss the Chilean Food. Last friday, I ate Chinese Food, but don't like :(

I was asked about climate in Chicago. Thank God, it has not been so cold. The weather is not as tolerable as it is in chile, It's so cold here. In Chile only snows in the mountains and in the south. I think in the next winter in chile, I will not feel cold.

First Week !

Hello Friends!

It's been the first week in this city, started classes at Kendall College. We went to  several cultural centers, some as "Chicago Cultural Center", "The Art Institute of Chicago" and "Harold Washington Library." Chicago have local neighborhoods known as "Chinatown" and "Boystown".

Chicago Cultural Center
In this place art exhibitions, made ​​by well-known artists are presented. I loved a spacious room, I would like dance there, but is very expensive.

The Art Institute of Chicago: 
Is a Museum, there are many sculptures and paintings of past centuries. As I like armor and ancient Egypt. 

Harold Washintong Library

I mean this place have the best place to read, is on 9th floor, is full of green and very quiet. 

ChinaTown 
Location city where Asian culture predominates. There are many store Chinese food and items typical of this culture.

BOYSTOWN,THE PARADISE! 


I think this place is the best of this trip, I love the culture that has relation to sexual diversity. Is a neighborhood where colors predominate. Has good bars to share with friends.

Part Of My Life :)

Hi everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!

My name is Ricardo Contreras, but all call me Ricky. I'm from Chile. I was Born in Santiago but raised in Curico, Maule Region. I have twenty-four years old. I am slim with black hair and brown eyes. I live with my parents, my brother and my dog, the dog is called Susi.

I am attending my 3rd year of Business Administration, major in marketing, at Instituto Profesional AIEP, Sede Curicó.

Right now I live for a month in Chicago, for English workshop. I love to dance. My favourite is the cueca, typical dance of chile and Modern Dance, I was class at MBA academy in Curico. 

I work at Jumbo Supermarket, since 2011, as Checkout Supervisor. This Month is my vacations.

My parents work at Viña San Pedro Tarapacá in the production area. My mom over sees the wine bottles and my dad drives a crane.












I came to Chicago to learn English, learn their culture and visit the most famous cultural centers.

I think the Picasso Sculpture represents a Lion :3 .The sculpture has a mane.
